The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion- a little hard going in places but very well written.
Just brought Night by Elie Wiesel (winner of the nobel peace prize) it's about Auschwitz, I'm going to start this today.

I've been wondering about this book. Joan Didion was interviewed by Terri Gross on public radio about a month ago, but what put me off the book was she (Didion) sounded so depressed and the subject seemed a bit depressing. Do you think it was worth the read?

Yes it's worth the read, not really depressing as such but it leaves me wanting more in a way, I don't really get any passion about what she is writing, it is completely as if she is telling it in an altered state, which I guess is what she was trying to do?

I've just finished the latest book by what has to be my favourite author of all time. He's a British guy - Rupert Thomson. Each of his books is incredibly well written yet they are so different in subject matter and to some extent style that you really have to wonder at how the same person could have written them all.

The latest book is called Divided Kingdom.

I'm currently reading "Feast for Crows" too and finding it hard, I think its been too long between books and while I'm slowly getting back into it I think there are too many players involved in the political intrigue; feels like work to try and follow it.... I'll have finished it by next tues/wed (its a workout book).

like others on here I read to enjoy not to learn (do enough learning at work)... my booklist (and pile) are quite extensive (pile is 20+ at the mo) and I read in definite spurts. 10 books one month, 1 book in 3 months... I'm on the second book in a spurt right now.

That was a little piece of sarcasm by me. Actually what I'm really reading right now is Playtime Maisy by Lucy Cousins - with my 1 year old daughter of course.

To be perfectly honest, I can't be arsed reading books - get no enjoyment from it at all. I do like a good movie though. I wonder if its this movie thing which has caused my dislike of books. I do read the newspaper and some magazines - I like to be able to read stuff in one sitting (similar to sitting down and watching a movie in one showing). And I can't do that with a book unless I sit there for days.

And to think I was top of my class for reading age back in primary school. Its been downhill ever since.

Its definately my favorite of the trilogy too. At least with the book you can pretend its Jodi Foster in the role too!
