Don't upset yourself too much

A friend of mine who lives in Reno has one. It refuses to start in Winter tempertaures even though it is garaged. She had to buy another car to drive in Wintertime.

Besides, in the US they are decidedly affordable.

I'm staggered that you're friend only bought another car because it refused to start in the winter - I know about 15-20 Ferrari drivers and not one of them uses it as their main car - just not practical enough - and you don't wanna put that many miles on it.

What makes you say in the US they are more affordable? I looked into selling mine and buying one in the US, but the price is about the same (in the UK - £118k, in the US - $180k). Do you mean gas/insurance?

How does car insurance work in the US? Britain is a rip-off where car insurance is concerned - is the US better?

Does anyone know how much it costs to ship a car over?

She has several cars but yes, she actually uses (or planned to) use the Ferarri as her main car. Her children have left home now (they are all at college). Despite the fact that the garage is heated etc the car still had problems starting the the wintertime. The garage could not duplicate the problem and so cannot fix it
She ended up buying a Porsche to use when it wouldn't start.

Quite a few Ferraris up here at the lake but strictly for summer use. During the winter they are garaged down in Reno at the dealership so I do not know from those locally here if they would experience a similar problem as it is not an issue.

Some models/years are decidedly more affordable in the US than in Europe. For some the reverse is true though so it probably all pans out in the end.

I'd rather have a Bugatti myself (Well no. I'd rather have a helicopter but they are too expensive to maintain!)

I'd be more concerned about the 2.5% import duty and the Federal "Gas guzzler" tax than the shipping cost, unless of course you are exempt in claiming a non-resident status?

My guess is you'll need someone who specialises in enclosed car transport to ship your car btw which will most likely be more expensive than a standard transporter due to the special handling required due to reasons such as protection against weather related elements, tyres and rims that are larger then sock wheels and would not fit on a standard car transporter,low suspension etc

No, not exempt unfortunately, so I'd have to cough it up - I think it's about $12,000 all in, the gas guzzler being the vast majority as it only does 13mpg combined. I can't see the shipping being less than $10,000 or I am way off mark?

I've asked several companies to quote for shipping, but nothing back yet.

I really can't see it happening - there's too many unknowns - warranty being one of them, and Ferrari doing lots of umming and ahhing when I ask that question.

Perhaps I'll sell it and plough the money into a bigger house

Or buy a Viper. Now, there's a thought :-)

I really couldn't begin to give even a ball park figure for the shipping - I don't know anyone who has brought a similar car from Europe to the US in the last few years even

As for the Viper - you serious? It would be an insult to the Ferrari imho, but that's only my opinion. One of my friends has a Maserati Spyder, cute car, although nowhere near the league of the Ferarri. Still at 90K I'd consider buying one as a summer runaround

The good thing about Ferrari's and cars like that is you can buy a semi old and it is still a hot car.
