WARNING! Before you hire a Mover, read these!

Unlike the UK there are NO regulations or even laws in the US covering house movers, which means it's open season out there on anyone who isn't aware of the nightmare something as simple as moving can turn into.
I actually engaged the worst culprit, Nationwide, to move my stuff from Seattle to NC...I was too busy to do the sort of in depth research I would normally do, and I only discovered these sites three days before they were due to come and get my stuff.
Within 10 minutes I'd called and cancelled them even though I knew I could lose my $2000 deposit -- if you think that's mad, wait till you read the links, it would have been worth it.... Unlike most of the people I was lucky enough to get my deposit back and when you realise what a bunch of crooks they actually are, I was VERY lucky.
I dodged a real bullet - I thought I'd post these to prevent any one else being caught. I urge you to at least take a quick surf through these sites...
Just out of interest, I used www.gosmartmove.com in the end, they were brilliant, although I had to do the packing myself with the aid of a couple of mates...

I'm rather enjoying being an honorary redneck...getting in the swing of eating deep fried everything with a salty sweet high-fructose sauce...
I close on my new house Friday, so I can get out of the Best Western and start living a real life again....
Mrs Vern and the three little Verns get back from the UK Monday, don;t know what they'll make of it all!

In one sense, you don't give the "benefit of the doubt" 'cos the consequences if one is wrong can be pretty bad, if not worse.
Fortunately, I avoided big problems last fall with my previous landlord who tried to rip me off after I vacated my apartment.

Well I posted before I'd seen you post, but my first post had nothing to do with your post.

The schools are (on paper at least) very good, it was the main reason we actually considered moving back down here. Well, that and the fact I've just bought a house for $220k that would have cost $600 or more in Redmond...
