Waitrose in USA

Re: Waitrose in USA
Framingham is a shit hole....but, the wine selection is massive and they do have a good collection, even the cheapo house stuff is pretty good, and they've got the two buck chuck which is three bucks, but an extra buck or two is worth it. Also have a really good beer section. Across the street is Whole Foods and there's a superb booze shop next door...

Not in Maine, but there is Hannafords that sell it...Ocean State is a dodgy store with a lot of random shite, but they usually have cheap Brit food, the one in Belfast ME is actually pretty good and so is the Big Lots in Windham. Reny's is another good store for random stuff on the cheap, the one in Madison is cute, though Camden and Belfast have really nice stores and there's a few other stores around the state.

There's a good one that I've used in Portland on the waterfront next to the Hilton Garden Inn. If in Portland the Shipyard brewery has a good shop and free tours and tastings too.

Check beeradvocate.com for listings - there are a fair few entries for beer shops that have a good selection scattered throughout Maine.

There are some good brew pubs in Freeport as well and Maine does have a good number of decent microbrews which have helped me get over my general dislike of US beer....and Guinness is readily available here.

Portland is also a good place to find cask beer if that floats your boat. I had a most enjoyable weekend supping there a few months back.

Hello!
This is my first response thingy! -- I have been here since September.. in NJ...
I echo the person who thought Waitrose was moving here...
Wholefoods as others have mentioned is a good place to start..but can be pricey
Most Markets are good for the everyday stuff... you might find it hard to find good meats... I know I have.. And some of the 'Fresh Veg' is worse than I have seen on travels in Africa!!! -- It's a case of trying things out.. and looking more closely at veg and stuff than you did in UK..
I dream of Tesco Pork and Apple Sausages! (sorry if you are a vegetarian!)
