Anyone who is not deeply disturbed by the direction in which the US has been moving in the last few years has their head in the sand. Yes, the media here sucks, but everyone on this board has access to news viewpoints from all around the world via the internet. So let's stop pretending we're poor little baa-lambs who don't know any better.

All of us who pay taxes fund the policies of this government whether we agree with them or not. That means blood on the old hands. OTT? Melodramatic? Useful labels if you don't want to see or take responsibility. Tell the victim of torture, or the guy who's detained indefinitely without the opportunity even to hear the evidence against him, that he's being melodramtic. It might wash with him. It won't wash with me.

Have you seen the film Road To Guantanamo? That looks like an OTT to me. What happened to having the legal right to a defence? Innocent until proven guilty? Very important concepts in a democracy. So, take away those basic right and what you have begins to look a little scary. These rights are were) there to protect everybody, you can't just take them away for a few people. If you take them away you take them away from everybody, and as Elvira says, if you aint a wasp or a senators son you might have cause to worry.

Citizens only. You are confusing the constitution with the legal system. All US laws apply to everybody in the US. The rights outlined in the Constitution are for citizens specifically.
