US equivalent of Which?
Hi,
When we move over to Plano in July, we're going to need to get sorted with a few household appliances - fridge/freezer, washing machine, tvs etc as we are renting an unfurnished house.
In the UK, I normally use Which to get an idea of what to buy - is there something like this in the US?
Thanks in advance....

But the reviews at Amazon.com are just as good IMO.

epinions.com is another choice.

Consumer Reports would be the most close to Which? In addition, there's Epinions.com which is wholly consumer reviews of a much broader range of things than Consumer Reports.

can assess comsumer reports stuff online too - we looked up frudges when we were buying one a few months ago.

Alas, we don't have a TV show akin to "That's Life" either. Not much call for stories of 'jobsworths', defective consumer products and evidence of viewer's phallic vegetables.

Oh I am going to sound like such a geek now ... but Consumer Reports is the original version of Which? I was told this before moving to the US by the Which? guy that I called to cancel my subscription. He told me to seek out Consumer Reports as Which? was based on it. Now where's my anorak?

The reason for this is that US TV is owned by, and run for the benefit of the corporations and advertisers, not the viewers. Can't have a program knocking a product that may be running a commercial in the next break for that same product!

stick with opinion type review sites like eopinion....you can get gadget type mags like T3 etc, but they're a bit shite over here compared to blighty, well they aren't as blunt about stuff being rubbish, just what it good.
