US Equivalency License
#31
I believe the class was dual-purpose - for new drivers and for those who had opted for classroom education in lieu of points on their license for a traffic infraction.

Excuse me, but what is the big deal about just getting a driver's license without having to eschew all this baloney about equivalency licenses. So you have to take a test. Are you that bad a driver that you don't think you will pass it the first time? We all should have such minor problems to deal with.

My question had nothing to do with whether Id pass the tests (car and motorbike) or not, it was whether there is any driving history/insurance benefits of one over the other.
Hopefully you were able to follow this post, I used small words on purpose to help you... :-)

Did you actually read the original post or did you jump straight to ill informed judgement of whether it was a valid question or not?

BTW insulting one of the longest-standing and most experienced members of BE does nothing to enhance your stature.

If you want the short answer - get a full US (IL) license if you are allowed to do so. You will be asked for it frequently for ID purpose and even if you can "manage" without it, life will be much easier to have so you can produce it when asked for ID.

I take your point and would normally agree with you, but I just don't think Retes initial post was reasonable. If people think I over reacted then I apologise.

Threads on BE tend to grow legs and go off on a tangent especially the driving license/test and healthcare ones. No point moaning about it and tbh it is a bit irritating/boring when it happens every.single.time.

I'm just curious if there is any opinion on whether it is better to do this or sit the test and get a genuine US license.
Does an equivalency license reference the amount of driving years which would be a benefit for insurance / driving history?
Or would the insurance algorithims prefer to see a genuine US license vs something that isnt common.
Or am I over thinking it....!
Any advice welcome.
Thanks!

Both are genuine licences, so that is not the issue.
Yes, you are over over over thinking it.
My advice, just get a full US driving licence and move on.

Agree with getting a standard US drivers license.
When it comes to insurance, call around and chances are good that you'll find one or two companies that will credit you for a good UK driving record. Documentation to support that will help a lot. I had a company car in the UK and got a letter from that employer. Something from your UK insurance company/agent will be helpful too.
