UK to USA salary / package

Re: UK to USA salary / package
One small detail to also negotiate: repayment of relocation.
Some companies require only 1 year, and others 2, until you can leave the company or return to the UK.
My husband's company did not budge on this. 2 years - first year if he quit, left or returned to UK - 100% we must pay back everything related to the transfer costs. After year two, it was a percentage, decreasing to zero upon two years. In other words, my husband had to agree to giving the company 2 years here in Houston.
Of course there are exceptions but the idea is to give those who want to 'give it a try' something to consider prior to such a huge expense on the company.
Every company is different. If its more of a secondment, then the company should pay for your car, housing, allowances, the whole enchilada, including education allowances for the kids. If its a company transfer, then its rarely set up that anyone makes money on an international move, but the company should try to make it financially painless as possible.
A bit of negotiating is the key, as well as researching the costs. For example, our company offered a paltry 2500 GBP in household shipping. It actually cost closer to 5000 GBP for a container door to door but the company reimbursed us based on our getting 3 quotes for the work.
Good luck! Its a great opportunity.
