Oh - stop all taking me so seriously and pedantically for Christ's sake - property is cheaper than the UK in comparible terms - end of story.
And dont start on the quality arguement either - that isnt part of my debate

Re: UK prices WOW
We were back over in January fro a couple of weeks.
We found out that the house we sold before we came over here was now valued at 100,000GBP...
Not that amazing you might say...
Well, We sold it for 43,000 in 2002 and that was 50% more than we originally bought it for in 2001!!
It's a two bedroom second floor former council house in northern England!?!?! Not exactly a desirable residence!!

For instance, where we live now the avg house price 3 years ago was around $80k, now you cant get anything for under $200k - and thats for a shack on a lot - and I live in redneckville not some major metropolis. I spoke to a friend the other day from where we used to live in the UK and our old house was recently sold for £220K. It was an 1800 sq foot 4 bed detached on a reasonable garden.
The price gap has closed I would say.

I think we will have to agree to differ!!
The average house price in the UK recently topped £200k - the average in the US is 200-250 - now i know the average is screwed here cos of the size and extremes, but the average in a big city like LA is only $450k. My three bed semi in Chester is worth about $370k - which in Texas gets me a house 3 times as big. Obviously i dont know all areas of the US and some areas will be more expensive - but that can be said back in the UK too. The UK is still growing at an enormous rate and certainly in Texas the property price growth just isnt that great!!
$200k is cheap for a house - you would struggle to get much of a house in the UK for that these days - terraces in traditionally 'cheaper' areas fetch over that these days!

here in houston (i think tx is the cheapest state) you don't get much for half a mil unless out in the sticks like sugarland or katy etc... even up to 1 mil it's zero lot line virtually again depending on the area...in the few good areas there are here your money doesn't go far nor in the grocery stores like whole foods.

AWP is right. Property around the country is going through the roof, especially here in FL.
It is baby boomer retirement time coming up, and I bet it will only get worst in this state.
