Two Times!!!
What ever happened to the word twice? Why do Americans use "two times" instead of twice. I noticed it on an advert the other day now I cant stop listening for it, no-one says twice, why, why, why?

Re: Two Times!!!

Patrick -- where have you seen "two times"? In advertising I rather like the use of 200% vs twice or two times. :D |

Re: Two Times!!!
"One time.... two times.... three times a lady"
Patrick, I'd be more worried that "thrice" is an endangered species. |

Re: Two Times!!!
This one annoys me. Loud people on cell phones starting the conversation with........"where you at?"
Is that just a Texas thing or is it all over? |

Re: Two Times!!!
I have also noticed that a lot of Americans cannot comprehend "double" as in spelling out a name L Y double N E. I spelt it that way to one lady on the phone and she read it back as "LYWE".
A lot will also say "one time" as opposed to once. My other pet peeves are: overages arrearages and winningest :D |

Also the use of forty seven hundred dollars rather than four thousand seven hundred. Does anyone know why the Americans will refer to wood as a 2 x 4 whereas in England we call it a 4 x 2. |

Re: Two Times!!!
...
But then again, when I was driving to my new post-doc at Bath University, I asked someone on a country lane if I was going the right way for Bath. He looked at me sideways and up-side-down, and then from top to bottom, then bottom to top and said (starting off slowly), I've never heard of Bath, but Baaaattthhhh is that way. :D |
