Default travel insurance

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong place. My friend is a US citizen and wants to buy travel insurance for travel to europe. I have looked extensively on the web it doesnt seem that annual policies are available like they are for UK residents travelling. Can anyone suggest what their american friends do and what online travel insurance they use?
thanks ppl

I was looking the other day for some travel insurance just for flight/baggage etc, I can't seem to find any that doesn't include medical. But found this site:

maybe they are covered with visa/mastercard?

but probably more luck with short term policy rather than an annual one, but local insurance place would be a good place to ask...

Haven't used them for travel insurance, but AIG Travelguard seem to do annual insurance (www.travelguard.com).

Not a big fan of insurance - our health insurance covers emergency medical expenses, and we self-insure for the rest. Apparently you can now buy cover against changing your mind! (http://travel.nytimes.com/2007/05/06...racinsure.html) - for a price, presumably...
