Tipping in the UK and US are culturally different. In the UK, tipping is mostly for at least good service.
In the US, the culture seems to be that customers feel obliged to tip, for service amongst other things, because many customers know that the person who is receiving the tip is getting paid minimum wage or a low wage. Also, in the US it could be argued that the person giving the tip asserts their status (as a customer) by providing a tip.

But the tax applies to alcohol and plastic surgery.

It might come as a surprise to you people but I didn't invent this trend - I was completely baptized by fire when I joined too
.... I just don't continue to whine about it. And at least you didn't cry like a girl ...... you told us to **** off and gave as good as you got. For the few that I've had run-ins with there have been a whole lot more that I've had nothing but pleasant exchanges with - I've made a lot more friends on this site than enemies.
Besides, I like Tolos - he's got spunk (and not the British kind - well maybe that too) .... I don't recognize UKimmigrant but he/she seems a little too sensitive and delicate for my taste.
Besides, I've changed since you first joined.... I'm now a good will ambassador with my own super-friendly-sisterhood-clique. <insert pious and perfectly behaved smilie>
