Default Suspicious message HM Revenue & Customs

Just received an e-mail purporting to be from HMR&C. Includes some mumbo jumbo about being checked by Government secure intranet virus scanning service. Invites me to click a link and allow access. Needless to say, I have not clicked!

This seems very suspicious. Any official communications in the past have come by snail mail in a brown envelope.

Anyone else received anything similar?

I vote for SCAM. HMRC does not do virus checking of taxpayers devices.

Definitely a scam! Delete it immediately!

If you want, send an email to HMR&C and they will confirm it's not from them.

Big scam very big in the UK also by text. HMRC will never email or text you! You can ask them. Only correspond by phone or letter (that's what they told me)

Not entirely true, but I have only ever received email back after requesting information. I have never had an unsolicited email. The emails came from something like [email protected]

You can always call HMRC or login to your account.

you can sign up for paperless notifications from HMRC. I did this some time ago and if there is anything for my attention I get an email from HMRC asking me to go to my Self Assessment account to read the message/s. There is never a link in these emails, but the older ones did say something like "This communication has been scanned for viruses etc by the Government Secure Intranet" but the one I received yesterday just says "if you're unsure this email is from HMRC , do not click on any links, go to gov.uk and search for "reporting suspicious emails"
