Re: Suitcase recommendation
I've been using the same LLBean canvas duffel bag for 20 years. I works for me!

Re: Suitcase recommendation
I have an Eagle Creek suitcase. It was about $200, but it has been worth it on various flights where a transfer is involved, and it's come through the experience looking good as new. I also have the vacuum type bags from Eagle Creek, but you just pack them and roll the air out, and the air stays out, unlike the ones you have to take a vacuum cleaner to. They are worse than useless. You can get the Eagle Creek bags at REI and some luggage stores and I'm sure you would be able to find them on the web.

And that's bad news, but I won't shoot the messenger, I promise!

Re: Suitcase recommendation
I finally bought a new suitcase just a couple of years ago. One of those Samsonite spinners, soft shell, carry-on size. I got it at Ross (the discount place) for about $40. I absolutely love it. I only ever travel with one carry-on and one personal item. I haven't checked baggage when traveling since about 1989! I travelled for 3 weeks in Turkey with just a carry-on and a small backpack. LOL
I figure if I can't fit it in my carry-on, I can live without it.
