Yeah, they do.....I think that it's a National Park? If so, buy a one yr pass for $60, and visit as many national parks as you want to in a one year period....its really worthwhile.

I'd suggest a visit to San Diego - heaps to do, but it'd be a bit of a drive!

Thanks for all your wonderful suggestions. Maybe I will look into Grand Canyon if there are cheaper ways than the more expensive hotels - I was thinking of the flights as well.

Ray - thanks for the offer of fun gun training, but I'm not sure they're ready for that....

Florida people - I didn't mean to be rude by suggesting there is only Disney there. But the weather is probably too hot at that time of year for us IMHO.

Ironporer - I absolutely love your suggestion, I would do it in a snap, but daughter #2 would hate it. I know, you can't please all the people all the time.

Everyone else - thanks for your great suggestions, I will do some research on them and get back to you!

Thanks again guys.

Can anyone suggest an 'interesting' short break (4 or 5 days?) destination that would not take days to get to from Arkansas? Daughters 1 & 2 would enjoy a bit of shopping, eating out and sightseeing. Parents would be glad just to get through those few days without too much fighting .....
How about camping in the Ozarks (if you are the outdoorsy type)?

Suggestion: If you want to visit the Grand Canyon but not stay there you can go to Arizona and/or Las Vegas, NV and stay there and then take a daytrip to the Canyon (either by plane or bus). The girls might love being in Vegas and catching all the sights and thrills (not gambling) while having other excursions as well as the Strip. You can drive from LV to the London Bridge in AZ (a day trip), Red Rock Canyon just outside of the Strip, Dessert of Fire, Lead Mead (great cruises for lunch), etc.

Kennedy Space Center, (can be expensive but worth it), Everglades if you like wildlife, an airboat ride is pretty good. Homosassa (http://www.homosassasprings.org/Homosassa.cfm), quite a few places in Florida if you take a look around.

how about flying down to your choice of location then going on a cruise.....plenty to do/ see....you can either spend time together, break away while on the boat...each day you'll be sightseeing in a different location... .i'm actually hopeing for a 5 day Caribbean Cruise myself either this year or prob next year....can you tell?

Cruises are a bit on the pricey side though, and I think he doesn't want anything too expensive..

not too sure about pricing but I know it's cheaper if you don't opt for the rooms with a balcony....that'd be quite crap if you planned on spending any time in the room...if not....who cares *lol* and when you consider you won't be spending money on gas or food/drinks..it might just even out...I fancy a cruise cos they sail out about an hours drive away ...and an hour any other way gets you nowhere

I suggest that the op go online to expedia...even if you don't like their deals/pricing it can always give you an idea cos they have packages categorised into different locations according to your tastes....beaches....casino's etc
