Suet in South Orange County
Just moved here from Ventura County over he summer. A little delayed on the Christmas baking but go to make the mincemeat today and box of suet is half full - arghh. No idea where to get it down here.
Any ideas?

Have you tried checking at a carniceria (Latino meat market)? Ask for "sebo" if they are not sure what you want.
The closest (and not very good) equivalent is grated frozen butter.

If you've a Brazilian population around, you can get it easily at one of their grocery shops too.
Though chances are, if you ask the butcher at one of the grocery stores a day in advance, they'd probably save it out for you. I know most in my area would.
If all else fails, there's vegetarian stuff you can get from Amazon, but don't know how good it is.

Save yourself the bother and just get a jar of mincemeat at the nearest British shop or World Market. Might not be quite the same, but ok at a push.

When I was in Ohio, I could get It in the meat dpt of the local supermarket (meijers). Once I found it on the fridge shelf in a package, and another time I asked and they went behind the doors and got me A packet. Both times it was a 'lump' I had to grate myself.
