Visiting Washington
My OH is attending a conference in Washington in a few months and as it is my birthday at that time I am thinking of going along. I have visited DC before though and so am wondering if at the weekend after the conference we should head somewhere else.
We have already visited NY and Boston several times each, so am thinking it would be nice to try something different. Also OH will need to fly back from Washington so don't want to go too far. Is Baltimore worth a visit? Or anywhere we can drive to? We will just have a couple of days after the conference and just looking for any suggestions.
I don't think we have any particular likes of dislikes to take into account, we both enjoy exploring places we have not been to before, be it busy cities or quaint villages.

Aye, the inlaws went and loved it. Might be a bit quiet in the winter though?
Also not far from Gettysburg, PA if you're into the history stuff, but again, might be a bit quiet and/or grim to wonder around in winter.
Don't think Baltimore is up to much, well I've only one mate who spent a short spell there and he didn't have to much to say about it but then he also got laid off a few weeks after moving there so that didn't help

The harbor area of Baltimore is nice if the weather is good. Mrs tonrob and I spent a nice few nights in a Marriott by the waterfront. There's a water taxi thingy that goes around, stoping at different places, including an old fort. There was quite a bit to do and we enjoyed ourselves.

Annapolis, MD and the US Naval Academy. Nice little town less than an hour from Washington, DC.

Re: Visiting Washington
I think the spring time is the best time around Washington, not hot and muggy and the tidal basin is pretty when the cherry blossoms are out. Mt Vernon is just outside DC too.
Williamsburg and Philly are each about 2.5 hours away from DC so very doable by car. If you go south to W'burg, give thought to go up through the otherside of the Chesapeake, pretty in its own right but its flat and mostly agriculture country. - Crab cakes are a must!
x2 with Gettysburg; which is about 1.5 hours from DC ... which I'd suggest taking a detour and see Harpers Ferry too. If up in G'burg, it may be worth to head East to Lancaster as its the heart of Penn Dutch/Amish country.
Baltimore, the popular area is the harbor area and it gets quite busy when the Orioles play, but as for the rest of the area ... I plead the 5th, imo.

Re: Visiting Washington
I second Annapolis as a place to visit once when conferencing in DC.
The Naval Academy is only one of the things to visit there (bring ID since you can't get on campus without it). It's right downtown so you can walk around the cobbled streets and see the waterfront and Academy at the same time.

The last time I was in Philly was on business and I ran across Eastern State Penitentiary. it is the original "penitentary" on the planet. It is a "preserved ruin" and was a pleasant surprise. Of course, there is Independence Hall and the Liberty Bill.
