State Sales Tax?

Re: State Sales Tax?
Yeah, it won't work, out of staters will figure out another way to dodge the tax and the locals will get shafted some more.

Fresh fruit and veg is usually tax free, but anything processed isn't.
All baby foods are free, and kids clothing...nappies aren't though....I think up in Maine, clothes aren't taxed either.

Yep. If an online company has a fulfillment center (i.e. warehouse) in your state, then you still have to pay states sales tax. Amazon has several fulfillment centers in KY and if the item is shipped from a KY warehouse, then I have to pay sales tax. So it isn't always sales tax free if you shop online.

or ship to a friend in a neighboring state and pick up the stuff later. I know someone who lives in Brooklyn, but ships stuffs he bought on amazon.com to a New Jersey address, and pick it up there instead.

Yea, in your case you should consider getting stuff from individual sellers on Half.com/amazon.com Marketplace, or from Overstock.com (Sales Tax for Utah only), buy.com (Sales Tax for CA, MA, NY, TN)

Arizona State tax = 5.6%
Maricopa County, add .7%
City of Phoenix, add 2.0% - total = 8.3%
City of Mesa, add 1.75% - total = 8.05%
I live in Mesa but work in Phoenix.

Much easier here where the Washington state people know, because they've crossed the river.
Well. Hopefully they know!

In 2007, BOE reported that use tax reported on income tax
forms was $2.8 million in 2004, $4.6 million in 2005 and $5.5
million in 2006.9 These amounts pale in comparison to the estimated
$1 billion of annual unreported use tax.

Re: State Sales Tax?
It used to be 5% overall in SC when I first moved here in 2004, then jumped to 6%. Here in Myrtle Beach (Horry County) it now ranges from 2.5% to 9%. They added an extra 1% last year to catch the tourists which of course means we locals also pay it It's all because of falling property tax values. We now have higher sales tax than in NJ!
I dunno what Charleston is, probably around 8% I'd guess.
