so why the hell is Paddys night being celebrated by a bunch claiming to have some vague irish link, which just so happens to be far far less than any irish links I may have (and bring up when the situation demands)
and why corned beef, which isnt corned beef.

It's as good an excuse to go get drunk as any I suppose; as good as Cinco de Mayo (even though were not Mexicans).

Corned beef?? Simple, poor Irish immigrants in NYC lived in poor neighborhoods alongside poor Jewish immigrants and corned beef was the cheapest protein available.

It never really did make much sense to me, even when I lived in Northern Ireland, but at least we got a day off work there. And two for the 12th of July :)

What bothers me more here is how people get all surprised that I don't get into it and go all "but you're Irish aren't you', which then means I have to explain all over again that I identify myself as British but I might as well be talking to a brick wall, and for some reason I always come off as a whiner but hey ho.

It makes no sense that they would ignore St George, St Andrew and St David though - that's 3 more piss ups right there, and none of that awful looking green beer that looks like a glass of Fairy liquid :eek:

I wouldn't mind if people just got drunk like they do on Cinco De Mayo, but they don't. They get fracking shitfaced. And worse, they get fracking shitfaced before I'm even on my way home from work. I have to deal with these plastic paddy bastards on the commute home from NYC tomorrow, and those are the lightweights who have wimped out at 7pm. Maybe I'll just take the day off. I'd get drunk with them if I could even find a bar I can get into without being thrown up on.

Like I said, I probably would, if I could ever make it to the bar. Every place in Midtown Manhattan is heaving by the time I finish work.

Maybe I'll buy a couple of tinnies and drink them in a paper bag with the other saddos.
