Default Ssn?

What is the deal with SSNs when you are filing for permanent residency? Does the INS issue you a number during the file processing...or do I have to contact the local SSA and do it myself?

TIA

It is a do-it-yourselfer. The INS deals with immigration issues. The Social Security Administration deals with social security issues. You apply for a SS card at your local SSA office with the appropriate K-1 and/or EAD card and other required documentation.
