Thanks and if you call the phone number do they tell you the SS number over the phone or do you have to go all the way back to the office find out the number?

You can only call to see if the number has been issued. They won't give you the number over the phone, because they don't know for sure that's you. You have to go in person and show ID.

No, for the reason Rene gave.
Your SS# is highly coveted information; be careful who you eventually share it with. google 'identity theft' for more info.
