Finally got around to updating my SS record with US Citizenship 6 years later. Called me right at my appointment time. Told walk-ins then wait was 2H+ wait…

Took my US passport and state DL.

Showed me a printed page with all my details including non USC parents names and the citizenship updated to “US” but would not allow me to take a picture / give me a copy. No new card needed as I had already been after I moved for the L1a to LPR and got one without the “work authorization required txt”. Think I am now totally done with all the admin from becoming a USC…

Sounds like you went into an actual SS office. Whereabouts, if you don't mind me asking?

Were there lines around the block, or just 'busy'?

I recall going to the local SS office in Phoenix when I was living there, probably 10 years ago now. It was a 'basic, functional office', but with high security at the door. I brought a backpack with my laptop in it (expecting a LONG wait), and they wouldn't let me bring it in so I had to leave it in my car, which was not ideal.

In CT. No line outside. A lot of the waiting room seats were taken, but it looked like less than half of the 20 or so windows were open, maybe only 4 or 5. I got there 10 min early, 4 tickets were called while I was there, 2 were appointments and called right at their time , 2 I assume were walk-in’s. They announced that appointments will be called first. The security guard was telling people who were coming that the wait was likely longer than they were open. It said it closed at 4pm and I was there at 1:40pm.

Wow... okay our expectations were somewhat low - particularly since I had contacted the FBU a couple of times and only got the automated response acknowledging the enquiry form submission. My wife, in contrast, got an immediate response with a date/time for a telephone interview. Well, today was that 'interview'. The guy at the FBU was brilliant: went through my wife's SS application, then said does your husband want his to - YES! (of course) - so we managed to get both our SS applications all sorted at the same time - about 30 mins for both. Extremely efficient - Yay!

That is superb, well done. This was our experience with my wife's application in 2020 during Covid with the agents working from home.
