Default Social security card and work question

I moved over to the US on a K1 visa and was married recently. Prior to getting married I applied for, and received, a social security number. One my SocSec card, it say "Valid for work only with INS authorization". Since then, we have married and I have adjusted my status, so that I have a greencard (temporary stamp in my passport at the moment) and am authorized to work.

My questions is, do I need to apply to the SocSec office to get another card or another number? Or is the one I have sufficient?

Cheers

Rick

Your card is good as it is or you can go to the SS office and request a new card (same number) without the legend. Be aware though that SS is now checking status on all alien requests with the INS for validity so it might take a few months before you get the new card in the mail. In the interim the old card is still good.

Remember the number will always be the same.

Thanks Rete

I called the SocSec toll free number but the woman I spoke to did not seem to know what I was talking about. I am going in next week to file paperwork to change my wife's surname, so I will ask again then.
