A bit of a daft question.
Going to new york on sunday for a few days with the wife and baby girl and was wondering if there was anywhere in manhattan to buy sma progress formula cartons (or even powder sachets but cartons are so much more handier,less messing around!).
I heard there are a few british shops in the area but don't know who or where.
Maybe it is sold in american shops, don't know what they use over there.
We don't really want to bring them with us you see.
Any help appreciated.

Formula isn't always sold in British shops. Those shops are for Brits who live here and it gets way too expensive to feed your baby on anything that has been imported by one of those places because they double or triple the prices. If you move with your baby you just switch formulas for one that is local.
The makers of SMA, Wyeth, have a follow-on formula called Promil Gold that is sold over here. It's for 6-12 months unlike the SMA Gold which is from birth, so that might be a good alternative. But if I was you I'd just bring it. Unless you are planning on being here for more than a week or two, it's a very small hassle to bring it compared to spending a day or more looking for formula in a rush because your baby won't eat anything else (yes been there).

BRING YOUR OWN!!!

Even if it is a bit of hassle. Unless it is imported in SMA is not availble in the US. You can buy pre-made and single serve pouches however for Enfamil and Similac (the big US brands) you can expect to pay more than double what you pay in the UK even with the exchange rates. Also (depending on the babies age) she may not take to the US formula.

when i browse the supermarket shelves - i do not spot any well known names from the uk in the baby food aisles. I would stick a cartoon in your suitcase.

Thanks for all the replies.
Will head down to our supermarket later to get some cartons then.

We went on holiday last november and brought about 45 cartons along with baby food jars and it was almost one suitcase, god it was heavy!!!

She is only on 2 bottles a day now though so it won't be too bad. 5 days so 10 cartons isnt too much and we can probably pick up some baby food jars over there.

Can we buy heinz baby food jars in shops there. (heinz is american isn't it??)

Sorry but Heinz is not really a brand label for baby food here... Gerber is the biggest brand and I can personally recommend them (both of my girls loved it).

Diaper/nappies pretty much run about the same (for Pampers).

Wow you like to chance it taking cartons of milk in your case! We always took powder with us everywhere (and I mean everywhere, our 4 year old is a true world traveller!), and it was never a hassle. Well our brand didn't come in liquid form so we had no choice I suppose! Especially if your baby is on the kind you can pre-mix in the bottle then warm as needed.
