Yet you have to be careful and not search for the fare that often, because this works into the airlines price algorithm and will (most probably) raise them.

No, he is referring from UK to US. Often times round trip fairs from the UK to US are about $300 cheaper than US to the UK depending on the season. Currently the prices seem to be the same round tripping either way.
