Default Should I destroy my expired Greencard?

I became an unconditional permanent resident, but now I have an expired conditional resident card. Would it be better if I cut it up or should I hold onto it?

Sell it. They go for about $200 each on the black market.

I take it you didn't have an interview for the I-751? Usually they take it from you at the interview. You will likely be asked for that old card next time you fly into the US, so it may make your life easier to hold on to it and turn it in at that point.

As a general principle, never ever destroy old documentation like that - you never know when you might need it to prove your status.

In this particular case you might be asked to return it, in which case take a photocopy now (if it's legal to copy) for your own records.

I had my interview this week and the officer took the card and told me that it was invalid and would get rid of it, that was no need for me to carry it as it expired in Jan 2007

Retain it in your Immigration file. You may need to formally return it at some time. It might be better to research HOW to formally return it, so that you don't have one of those surprise encounters at the airport. (trying to remember who posted that story in the Immigration forum...)

You mean you went from being a Conditional Permanent Resident to a Permanent Resident? When this happened to me, I had to surrender the CPR Green Card at the I-751 appointment.

I didn't have an interview. They just sent an approval letter in the mail along with my new card.

Which is normal for how they are processing I-751 cases now.. don't worry about that. But you might want to look into how to formally turn it back in, say at your District Office.
