Default Shortage occupations in the US

hey given the deep recession it seems very few professions are recruiting. Am just wondering which professions still recruit from overseas??

The 65k H1 visas still get snapped up but in what? They all still IT folks.

Grateful for opinions

Probably a few occupations in shortage of skilled workers, most not in positions to get a visa though.

If you want to see who got how many H1B's, then there are lists you can find on google easily enough.

If I had to hazard a guess I'd say they are mainly tech or O&G jobs.
I'm in O&G and know there are a lot of people coming over at the moment, especially from the UK. There's a real shortage of good engineers in the industry so getting visas doesn't appear to be proving too difficult (we've had no issues doing it and I know many others haven't either).

I'd be curious to know if the Indian outsourcing companies (IT jobs) are again getting the vast majority of the H-1B visas like they were prior to the recession. If that is again occurring, chances of getting a H-1B visa for people from other countries as well as other types of jobs would be greatly reduced. Unfortunately it is hard to know since the latest report is several years old.

It appears that most if not all the top ten companies are either outsourcing and/or consulting companies. I wonder if that is because most R&D companies need employees now and not necessarily in October so they depend on the outsourcing companies to hire the people and then hundreds of R&D companies just contract with the outsourcing companies on a as needed basis. Unfortunately most of the outsourcing companies hire their employees from India leaving few H-1B visas available for other countries.

I wondered that too. My guess would be that it includes renewals and cap-exempt positions.

I now suspect it includes the 65,000 standard H-1B visas, the renewals, and the 20,000 US university higher education degree H-1B visas but the cap exempt positions are generally non IT positions and the chart indicates very few non IT positions. Maybe there are very few cap exempt H-1B visas issued.

huffingtonpost.com/david-j-skorton/doctors-immigration-reform_b_2727971.html

so maybe doctors are the next big shortage on the horizon perhaps. though i think they are cap exempt but not 100%
