Re: Sandy
I'm pretending it's not going to happen, but inwardly a bit worried , Irene hit VT badly, you can still see the damage it caused in places, they are predicting Sandy will be worse

Same here, Nutek. From what I'm reading, they don't seem to think snow will be involved in CT this time, "just" torrential rain and high winds. The trouble is, there are still so many dangling branches from the last Halloween storm that it is going to be a nightmare when they start getting flung around. We can stay indoors, but the dogs need to go outside!

\HUNKER DOWN! (not really sure what that means either)

Re: Sandy
And our street has a little river (stream!) running down it, and it flooded badly, and the town got FEMA money, and used it to deepen and widen the bed, and put walls up the sides. I guess it'd be interesting to see how it holds up, but in an ideal world I'd rather not find out

Re: Sandy
It could be a munter.
The real issue is losing power for days on end. Our town is surprisingly good, but then it owns the power company. Neighbouring towns were without power for 1-2 weeks the last time we got hit hard.
The roads and trees got munted too, with the trees getting ripped out of the ground as well as the branches smashing up cars and roofs/windows.
It took one neighbouring town that got mullered a good month to clear out all the tree damage caused by the storm.
Just as long as it isn't a ice storm, those are the worst, around here at least.

Re: Sandy
It shouldn't be too bad, it's just all typical hype on the news to scare people into watching the news all weekend.

Re: Sandy
Virginia declared an emergency this morning.
There's a house on my sub-division that is just about finished being rebuilt after our storms & derecho event in the summer landed a tree through it. On the way home tonight I noticed they were cutting down virtually every tree on their plot within 50 feet of the house. Can't say I blame them, they must have been looking forward to normality and dreading the weekend's weather.
I've got as far as torches, batteries, candles & matches and firewood. I'll tidy up outside tomorrow for things that could blow around and cause damage. Then it's a case of waiting it out, and if necessary camping in my basement for a while. One of the models had the eye of the storm heading straight for Richmond - too far ahead to say where it's exactly going to go, but I think at a minimum it's going to be a bit wet and windy here....
Hope everyone stays safe!

Whilst I don't want to say we've got nothing to worry about (here in Richmond VA) and then end up in prison like the Italian guys, I have charged everything that needs charging and will keep them all topped up. I'll do my usual shop tomorrow, hopefully avoiding the panic buyers, and may even go as far as topping up the trucks gas.
But what a load of hype....... At least it's given everyone something to talk about other than the election.
Carl.

I'm not sure if BA have waived change fees yet (they hadn't when I checked yesterday) - but even though moving my fight 24h sooner would work from a travel perspective, I also don't want to commit to that change yet until we know more about how badly Mrs tonrob and the Sproutette will get hit while I'm away...
