First hand current experience, and I think that cancer treatment in the UK is bloody amazing. My father in law was diagnosed with cancer 6 weeks ago and the NHS has been bloody brilliant. Every aspect of care has been superb, including some that we weren't expecting such as the homeopathic treatments and the hours appointment his consultant offered my husband and his brothers just for them to ask questions.

Sadly it's not been treatable at all and he's only got days, at best, to live, but I can't fault the GP, the doctors, the hospital, the district nurses that have come in 8 times a day to see him and care for him at home, or even the voluntary emotional support offered by the Macmillan Nurses. He started treatment within 24 hrs of diagnosis, and was diagnosed very quickly after his first visit to the GP.

I appreciate that there may be a postcode lottery with the NHS (although we've always had great care no matter where we lived), but I honestly can't fault the cancer care and can't see how the US could have bettered it.

Yes, same for my Dad, fantastic care with all the additional support like district nurse and another specialist nurse, and Macmillan nurses.

The 'Postcode Lottery' seems to be a bit of a buzzword like the 'PC Brigade'.

Throw "Broken Britain" into that hopper.

There really is a postcode lottery.

I just watched my grandmother die of cancer and her experience was nothing like described above.

Eventually we got her the care she needed by paying for her to move to a nursing home. So much for care free at point of delivery.

You had to pay for her medical care?

I have not heard of that, and we have quite a number of relatives with medical issues.

I'm glad you haven't needed to do it. I wish I could say the same.
