Always considered Canada as a more open minded America.

I've previously lived in Alberta and spent time in Ontario. Only problem is the remarkably short summers.

As already mentioned, even if there was a way to retire to the USA as a pensioner, that UK pension won't be going very far at all these days.

Ironically, I've paid enough US Social Security contributions to receive a US pension but I won't be drawing it in the USA....

Canada might be more in tune with your way of thinking, but the more I learn about Canada, the more I think it is equally restrictive, just in a different way from the US and the UK.
