I used regular USPS, but with a signed receipt and it worked out fine.

I used FedEx Express, and it cost about $50.

Looks like it's already done - got texts from DHL Express about deliveries scheduled today (so just 2 weeks after sending!). I'm not home this week so I'm having to delay delivery.

Interestingly, I'm getting notifications about TWO packages from DHL; could they be sending the old passport back separately from the new one? Seems very inefficient. I guess I'll find out next week!

I used USPS without a signed receipt, because I like living life close to the edge.

Yes, they always send 2 packages, one with the new passport and the other with the returned documentation. In my son's case recently the 2nd package contained his old passport, his birth certificate and the photocopy of his US passport.

It's in case someone steals the package. That way, less likely to lose it all and makes it easier to get a replacement than if you had no old passport.

Actually it's because the passports are printed and dispatched from an automated facility run by De La Rue and the supporting documents are being returned from HMPO.
