Everything was packed for me by 'professional international removals packers' - they said liquids were fine as long as the container hadn't been opened. Foods in tins or packets were the same.

I also brought over some swimming pool chemicals which I thought would never be allowed.

Oh! Hubby's company must be experienced in moving people.. heading you off at the pass!
I would hate to have to leave my toiletries behind.. it takes a long time to test all those new hair products!

Look up laws about 'Bio-Terrorism' - that's why you have these restrictions. You are quite right!

My understanding was that it wasn't worth the risk of them searching the container for the sake of a few bits and pieces you could easily buy over here.

I think the even more amazing thing is that I had swimming pool chemicals in the UK - why oh why?

Does anyone know if you can put Glue in your shipment, I have become paranoid about putting the wrong things in and the last thing I want is them ripping it all apart for glue, however our suitcases are already going to be overloaded without ading extra weight in. I have tried searching border security etc and can't really find what I need so any help would be great.
our movers, Davies Turner took all sorts of cleaning stuff but no food, spices or liquors/wines. I shipped leather paint which is flammable and no problem - all arrived and no duty.

Wisewol .. how are you settling in? Your container has probably arrived now (it's been so long since your first post!). Did everything go smoothly? Are you 'living the dream'?!
