Default Question about UK visa for my 14 month old!

I am a british citizen, my baby is a US citizen, we have permission from his father to move back to the UK, I have been away for 7 years....how do we do this? Do I just take him? as long as we have the letter of permission from his dad, is this enough? Is it possible that I have to pay $800 for a visa for the baby????!!! Any advice would be great...I was thinking I could just take him, seen as he as a right to be there with me...this is all so confusing, expecailly when you can't go digging online becasue you are too busy runnung around after a toddler!!!!

Are you a British citizen by birth, or by descent?

If you are a British citizen by birth then your child is automatically a british citizen by descent, (in addition to being a US citizen.)

There's good info on the UK home office website:

With respect, he may have a right to be with you, but he might not have a right to enter the UK with you. From the UK's point of view, the child may be seen simply as a non-UKC - with no inherent right to live in the UK. Is the child also a UKC? Did you register his birth with the UK Embassy in the US?

I appreciate your situation, but this is not a trivial situation - you should address it ASAP. At any rate, the child will likely need a passport to travel.

Without know how you got UK citizenship, people won't be able to answer this.

Chances are, if you got your citizenship other than by decent, you probably passed it on, so apply for the childs British passport.

Do you also have a court order giving permission or something else legal, in writing saying the father gives permission?

Get his permission in writing and notarized or written up by a lawyer, otherwise you could be heading for the airport and he changes his mind and stops you moving anywhere.
Good luck.
