Even outside of Metro Vancouver where there are lower gas taxes, still averaging 1.16 to 1.20/liter.

As they say BC = Bring Cash. We pay for the most part more for everything compared to other provinces.
Another key point in the price of gas is how many refineries are competing.
It would seem that a lack of competition may play a role

$1.86 at the local Cumbies with their discount card.

Ranged from $1.89-2.25 on our trip up to Maine.

BP is $1.849 - $1.869 in local and nearby towns, which in all but very few isolated stations is as low as it gets round here. I saw a Hess down at $1.799, but that was an outlier.

It went up in price twice today while out, went past around noon and 1.19 per liter CAD$, when I went past around 2pm, it climbed to 1.22/liter. Up from 1.15 liter last week.

Saudi Arabia raised gas prices by 50%, they now pay roughly 24 cents per liter (not sure what currency CBC is quoting)

Gone up 30 cents a gallon in eleven days in California. California refineries cannot keep up with demand due to the number of people driving over the Christmas period. and some refineries have decided to do maintenance work.

Very fishy

Doesn't help that ExxonMobil had a major explosion early in the year that has left that refinery crippled for the most part all year.

Reading online WA state has a refinery offline as well that feeds California, which in part also explains why our gas prices are rising as well.

Could be worse, you could be paying 4.67 per gallon.

Remember you're addressing a mostly British audience, so back home we "could" be paying US$6.00+/- per gal US!

You guys are doing well. The cheapest around here is $1.96. Most places are still above $2.00. In the $1.80s just over the line in Wisconsin, though.

Prices like that would probably put the final nail into our crummy economy up this way.

At our prices it keeps us from doing road trips and travel, even with an economical car the prices are too high to just do frivolous driving. Essential driving only in these parts.

Although gas is the least of the worry for the future, tolls will what will really hurt, between the bridges being tolled, and talk of per km tolls, driving will not be in the long term future for many.

Eventually every bridge and road will be tolled, just a matter of time.

The cheapest where I am, well they are all the same price is 2.20, I usually can fill up in Denver and have a couple of spare 5 gallons to get me through.
