Re: Price of gas update...
Quebec may lead the tax parade, but they on average have lower gas prices then BC, specifically the southern end of BC, we generally have the highest gas prices in the country.
Montreal for example average is 1.07, vs 1.22 in Vancouver.
Even outside of Metro Vancouver where there are lower gas taxes, still averaging 1.16 to 1.20/liter.
As they say BC = Bring Cash. We pay for the most part more for everything compared to other provinces.

It would seem that a lack of competition may play a role

BP is $1.849 - $1.869 in local and nearby towns, which in all but very few isolated stations is as low as it gets round here. I saw a Hess down at $1.799, but that was an outlier.

Saudi Arabia raised gas prices by 50%, they now pay roughly 24 cents per liter (not sure what currency CBC is quoting)

Gone up 30 cents a gallon in eleven days in California. California refineries cannot keep up with demand due to the number of people driving over the Christmas period. and some refineries have decided to do maintenance work.
Very fishy

Reading online WA state has a refinery offline as well that feeds California, which in part also explains why our gas prices are rising as well.
Could be worse, you could be paying 4.67 per gallon.

At our prices it keeps us from doing road trips and travel, even with an economical car the prices are too high to just do frivolous driving. Essential driving only in these parts.
Although gas is the least of the worry for the future, tolls will what will really hurt, between the bridges being tolled, and talk of per km tolls, driving will not be in the long term future for many.
Eventually every bridge and road will be tolled, just a matter of time.
