Power cuts

USA has written about those little guys mucking up things:
"Suicide Squirrels driving Utilities nuts"

Not sure what is more weird--a squirrel zapping power or 'leaves on the tracks' slowing trains (that one always makes me laugh).

My apartment in DC hasn't had a power cut for about 15 years, but all the lines are buried. My house out in the country, however, has several a year. We have overhead lines and trees trees trees.
It sucks all the worse because we are on an electric well for our water, so a loss of power also means no h20.

So when a big storm is forecast here we fill up the bath so we can flush the loo with a bucket. Also fill up jugs for making cups of tea etc.
In a way it's fun for a while, making tea on the wood stove, heating up soup etc...... bacon and eggs for supper made on the woodstove!

We did buy a generator a couple of years ago, just before Katrina hit. The company we bought it from were about to ship it when the hurricane hit & they were swamped with orders. Naturally, orders from that area came before ours so 3 months later, no genny & we got a refund instead. Still don't have one.
I hadn't thought about the well pump though. yikes! And the giant water system we have in because our water stinks off sh!t
