There's UK suburbs, and there's US suburbs - don't confuse the two.
I would reckon that in the US 2 cars is a must for you otherwise you will both end up going bonkers.

Just thought of one more thing for you to consider Scott. When we came here my husband made sure that his company transferred his length of service to the US company. This could prove useful in the future especially if you transfer back to the UK.

Sorry, I keep thinking of all the different points my hubby covered. He left it open ended with the UK company that they would pay for us to return to the UK at any time, while he was still with the company. Your wife probably couldn't get that but try it within a 2 year period. During the first 3 to 6 months you are in the 'honeymoon' period, its like being on holiday, then reality hits.

Not so, depends on the person. As a general matter, depends on the International student's level of motivation, their educational background, and their ability to do well in the standardised tests, etc. They have about as much chance as the locals of winning a tuition scholarship.

I've already paid for a report for the wife on salary.com and that says she should be hitting around $74k.

If we get around that figure - do-able?

Her managers going over at the end of the month to get more details and start negotiating the package and this will be going with her along with all our other questions.

Agreed on transferring length of service.

Damn those degrees are expensive - online OU might be an option as thats cheaper.

I had figured on two cars being probable - albeit two reasonably cheap second hand ones at that. I was reading through the thread that had some info on car insurance and which companies appeared to have better rates.

There's fairly straight forward ways of reducing the cost of getting an undergraduate degree. Two years in a community college with affiliations with a traditional university. Do-able. Just needs planning and the willingness to compromise to reach do-able end goals. I have never seen any reason to have to spend a small fortune on an undergrad degree. The student can do the first two years at a community college, live at home, have a part time or even a full time job ... yes it's harder with a part time and even harder with a full time job, and a lot harder with a full time job that involves travel away from college. Depends on the motivation of the student and their ability to cope with what life throws at them.

Have you read Fatbrit's article on US finance etc? A must read!
