Please Help - Using UK electronics in USA
#46
Depends on certain electrical items but I bought a cheap UK six way extention lead (£5) then plugged that into a cheap UK -> USA (£2) travel adaptor.
Manged to run two laptops, phone chargers, camera charger etc no problems.

Thats probably because they are all portable items and therefore are dual voltage. Most household appliances aren't.

No reason that wouldnt work fine as they are all dual voltage.
Although go to radioshack and get new figure of eight wires for your laptop chargers so you can plug them in anywhere - they are cheap as chips - using adaptors for them is daft! They are no longer portable!!!

Thanks for your help, guys. Actually, I'm not looking to record from the TV. I want to be able to play UK VHS tapes and record them onto my computer and/or US video camera. I want to be able to edit them and turn them into DVDs. I'm also looking to buy a small TV next time I'm in England so I can watch my UK videos. I want a really small one, not even a regular 17" portable, I'm talking a small pocket size TV.
So....I gather I would get away with a 200 or 300W converter then?

Basicaly............. If you own anyting that will work on 110 v you are ok, otherwise you need a voltage inverter for each item which would be very expensive, so sell everything and start over.
