Default Best model, make of pick up truck?

hi, i am looking into buying a pickup and wondered if any of you had any advice as best on gas milage, parts/servicing costs, hauling capacity, horsepower, etc? i have asked but all i get told is buy american as they are the best, but i know that not to be always true, i am looking for a larger truck (quad/crew cab) something like the toyota tundra, f-150, silverado size not the little baby trucks i see a lot (ranger, tacoma etc.) i know i can go to a car site and pull up the info, but i do value peoples honest opinions as you get a real picture, not just a load of calculations and measurements on a page! thanks in advance for any help/suggestions!

I think a 50 year old push bike would be better than your old montego wouldn't it? although i have to admit they had good engines, shame all the bodywork rusted away after 2000 miles though, got a bit breezy after then on! lol

Toyota's a good one, but parts are expensive when it goes wrong....Silverado ain't bad either if your lugging logs around, cheapish to get and run, though a tad thirsty and warranty can be sketchy, well they just shafted FIL on the warranty on a $950 repair....but they can be repaired nicely, his pickup over the last couple years has been front ended by a mack truck, passenger side mauled by a bear, and both sides tackled by moose, and all repaired well

I drive a 2001 Silverado Crew Cab 1500HD, I get about 13/14 MPG, which is a bit crap, but I like my truck. There's quite a lot of room in it, I had visitors from England here a few weeks ago. We managed to fit 5 adults & my son in his big car seat in there, although it would have been more comfortable with just 4 adults, as unfortunately, I had to sit 'bitch'!!!

Rik, I know nothing about "milage", but I do know how to throw a good party and can offer a few good pickup lines ... you will be pumping, hauling ass, and revving up the old motor all night long. Guaranteed, or your money back.

all-night-long

If the JD power surveys anything to go by, go with the Toyota

If you want a huge truck, what's gas mileage got to do with anything?

Ford F-150 gets my vote if you have to go big. Like every single freakin' big truck, it's a "tad thirsty"

I know some people will poopoo this but I've had an half ton Avalanche 1500 for over a year now and its hauled a 7000lb trailer all over Florida with no problems whatsoever. The cab rides like a luxury SUV - and with acres of space - which is important when you have kids on long journeys, yet the bed has space for all sorts of crap (its the same size bed as an F-150) and comes with the solid removable covers for free. If you need a longer (8.5 foot) bed on occiasion then the midgate folds down and you have a full size truck bed ala an F350.

Its a tad thirtsy - gets around 18 avg to the gal. but then like all trucks its a big 5.4 liter V8.

Would I change it? Yes but only for the 3/4 ton Avalanche 2500 sometime.

I agree with Ray - my husband bought the Dodge 1500 Laramie and he loves it. Ours came with the fold out platform under the back seat for stacking stuff and tie downs. it is pretty thirsty but its a comfy ride. The only thing I don't like when driving it is backing out of somewhere, that sucker is so damn long. You may also find it won't fit in the garage - too long.

As a Nissan owner, I can highly recommend the Titan or Frontier trucks. The Frontier from the SE model up, has the same 4 litre v6 265 bhp as my xterra and the cab is pretty much the same also. We get about 15 mpg in the city and about 20mpg on the freeways.

The model in the new Ford adverts keeps winking at me, so that gets my vote.

TR will be along soon to tell you all the technical details of the F-150 and it is very impressive.

But most terrorists use Toyotas because they have very good reliability.
