Default Perrysburg

Hi!
i'm visiting my other half this month and as we're to sit down and talk about me moving over and making some kind of 2 year plan (k1). This time scale is being realistic for me to save up a bit more but also to wait for the proposal lol!

Basically, what is there to do in Perrysburg? I like walking and he's by Fremont Pike so i'm planning to do an hour walk to the town where we've driven before and down to the Fort. Not only is this to get my head around being left to my own devices when he's at work as i've yet to brave driving....but people are already asking about what to do when they come on 'holiday' in close proximity. (I'm 33 so friends will expect lively activities and parents just interesting sights. I know much of it is historic value.)

I live in South Yorkshire and can walk most places in good and bad weather to get a bit of exercise and i'm near all the beautiful dams and reservoirs which is all very safe when on my own and very picturesque. Even though I've been over a lot..i realise we always get out of the area and often to Detroit. Thats a fair trek when I need to consider that when people visit I hope to be in work and dont want to drive quite that far to meet people and go places.

I'd like to investigate ideas myself on the days i'm on foot so to give you an idea if you know the area its near the big Kohls where i'm heading out from.

On the same front i've been looking for any UK/european companies for job prospects as I hear these offer better paid leave but other than manufacturing/plant work there's not a lot advertised when hunting on Monster and local sites. The job discussion is probably a point to ask later but I did want to start approaching some tentatively as soon as we start the process as I dont want to be out of work for long.

Thanks for listening, scared but determined to do it!

Perrysburg is a very family focused suburb--good schools, etc. I wouldn't say that there is a lot to do without a car, or a big 20-30something scene.

The Fort is worth a visit and I know there is a farmers market 'downtown' once a week (Thurs I think).

Here are a few sites to try:

Things to do in the Toledo area--the art museum is worth a visit if art interests you at all. I am not interested in baseball but the Mud Hens are a fun night out (at least for a family). There are some lovely parks--Botanical gardens, Wildwood, etc.

Day trips: there are lots of lakeside towns worth a visit, Greenfield Village/Henry Ford Museum in Michigan,

There are lots of local festivals that can be fun--from apples to Hungarian, Greek, German, etc.

I don't really like Toledo much. There is stuff to do but generally it seems like you live there and in the surrounding area because you can't get out or you are tied there for work. I have family there now and family who have lived there, Perrysburg specifically, so I do go there a fair amount. It is what you make it but it's not really a place I'd chose to live. As for exploring or doing things on foot, you probably could but you would need to be prepared to set your area as things within a 2-3 hour or so walk. Of course there are closer things but generally you'll need to hike for most things worthwhile. Oh, and the Toledo area is really hurting on the job front. If you live there you should be prepared to take anything and hope something better comes along.

We've found some lovely places this last trip to visit but driving distance again. Olander park was a real find in Sylvania.

I've been into Toledo a few times and wouldn't plan on my job search there if I can help it!

Thanks or this, we went into Perrysburg to a lovely Greek cafe and there was an open air market on with lots of fresh produce which was a welcome suprise. Very friendly locals and blessed with the weather this trip.

We did the fort on my last trip which was a nice place to visit as a Brit and we've found that the food at the Casino towards toledo does excellent food, just expensive. That was for our anniversary so a nice treat!

I found it much more 'homely' this trip as we weren't treating it so much as my holiday.

Still quite quiet but i'm going for him and we enjoy finding new places to visit, Olander Park is my favourite so far.
