Hello....

I can't comment - yet . Lets see how things play out.
Some good news though - I was told I'd have an L1? (it was definately L something) visa and Holly could work after applying for some kind of work permit - I was told this could take a few months but that seems good. Not sure she'd get into teaching, but at least she could legally work.

If you are an executive/manager it will be L1-A - if something else L1-B.
Both afford dual-intent and will allow your spouse to apply for EAD. Either of these are more flexible than H1-B - and assuming you are employed by a significant entity (and I can only think of one in Peoria IL!) renewals should not be an issue for you either.

Great news! Now you'll want to find out if it's L-1A or L-1B and what the company's idea about green cards is.

The Immigration forum is the better place for your visa specific questions; lifestyle, moving & other practical matters should be researched & discussed in the USA forum. Good luck to you!

Yikes - it's all happening. We have to apply for visas and then come on a home finding visit. Mine will be an L-1B visa. It's all a little crazy, but very exciting.
Any advice would be appreciated, we're obviously nervous but also looking forwards to the new surroundings. Any feedback on what we're about to go through would probably help - provided they're generally positive.
Livin' in america eh!!

Be sure to go through the WIKI section as many of the questions you might have will be answered there:

And if that is too overwhelming, just start with the massive list we created to sort you through the first steps:

very cool, good luck!

Though it's the company that's applying for the visa, not you.

And apart from checking out the wiki and past threads on things, moving, what to expect and bring and all that, there's also loads of threads about what to bring up in relocation package, what to cover, what are musts and what would be nice bonuses.

It's the little things like a bonus being a family flight back to the UK once a year, but a must would be covering cost of an emergency flight in case a family member gets in an accident or dies as last minute flights cost a fortune.
