Default Passport applicants face grilling

More than 4.5 million people a year will have to go to an interview to get a new passport from the end of 2008.The interviews are part of plans to replace traditional passport photos with high-tech biometric data such as face scans, fingerprints or iris scans.

It looks like the interviews are only for first-time applicants. But I wonder how we in Arizona will be asked to provide face scans, fingerprints, etc. I believe there isn't even a consulate in Phoenix. Will we have to take a trip to L.A., Wasington... London?

Yes, they say that eventually everybody will be within 20 miles of an office. But that doesn't look too good for us.

a good source of information with regards to overseas passport renewals (and numerous other consular matters) is the below link which details how you can apply for passports and renewals and im sure will be updated when appropriate
