When I said in my OP that we have our original turntable, that was because I couldn't remember the word gramophone, which is what I think we have.
We also have loads of cassettes still.
Question: Why do we still use the phrase You sound like a broken record?
Me too. I'll wear any old rubbish around the house, my own stuff or my husband's if he doesn't notice.

EDIT: When it comes to sound anyway! I have to admit Bluerays look flippin' fantastic on a high quality screen and thought of watching the weekends footy with a non-HD broadcast now...

I remember the 1990 World cup, trying to make out the players inbetween the interference on the TV. Think it was particuarly humid (for the UK that is) that night, and we weren't getting a good signal.

It was when we were trying to watch TV in our bedrooms, with those circular aerials that never stayed in the right place, that the real fun began

Agreed, they were particularly useful for journos recording interviews for broadcast, it was dead easy to edit out awkward pauses, background noises, etc. I left all my MD kit to a mate in hospital radio when I moved over here in 2005, still used AFAIK.

But my kids are a good source of funky, round-the-house clothes. The fact that I "rescue" & wear their embarrassing discards doesn't always please them, so I try to remember not to wear them when they're around. Don't wear em outside the house either, haha! Wearing an old hoody right now with a skull on it from some skateboard company (I think) originally.
