I can't remember what brand they were. Replaced them with some Sovtek (I think) equivalents.

Re first sentence, whatever you want to talk about is fine.

When I said in my OP that we have our original turntable, that was because I couldn't remember the word gramophone, which is what I think we have.

We also have loads of cassettes still.

Question: Why do we still use the phrase You sound like a broken record?

Me too. I'll wear any old rubbish around the house, my own stuff or my husband's if he doesn't notice.

Because records are cool. Let's face it, saying 'you sound like a corrupted mp3' is just shite ...

Probably not but we still can because, basically, a broken record still sounds like a broken record.

Exactly.

On the other hand, an intact record sounds much better than an uncorrupted mp3, to my ears anyway ...

Analog is best!

EDIT: When it comes to sound anyway! I have to admit Bluerays look flippin' fantastic on a high quality screen and thought of watching the weekends footy with a non-HD broadcast now...

Very much so. Sadly it is also expensive as well. In the case of synths and amps, that is.

Oops, just saw your edit. Yeah, TV is one arena where digital is topping analog.

I remember the 1990 World cup, trying to make out the players inbetween the interference on the TV. Think it was particuarly humid (for the UK that is) that night, and we weren't getting a good signal.

We always got a reasonably good signal on our (utterly tiny I might add) living room TV that we plugged into the wall to receive our generous helping of four channels. I was able to watch Italia '90 with some ease.

It was when we were trying to watch TV in our bedrooms, with those circular aerials that never stayed in the right place, that the real fun began

Agreed, they were particularly useful for journos recording interviews for broadcast, it was dead easy to edit out awkward pauses, background noises, etc. I left all my MD kit to a mate in hospital radio when I moved over here in 2005, still used AFAIK.

Can't borrow my husband's because he has fewer clothes than I do, & many of his clothes are on their last legs. Honestly, I have to beat him about the head to get him to buy new shirts or trousers--he'd much rather wear the old ones to shreds. (He hates clothes shopping even more than I do.)

But my kids are a good source of funky, round-the-house clothes. The fact that I "rescue" & wear their embarrassing discards doesn't always please them, so I try to remember not to wear them when they're around. Don't wear em outside the house either, haha! Wearing an old hoody right now with a skull on it from some skateboard company (I think) originally.

My husband has closets full of clothes he rarely wears. He's a surgeon so he's mostly in scrubs.
