Oh, you have a green card? Please face the camera..... Oh and welcome home
Haven't we been fingerprinted, photographed, background checked and medical'ed enough. The DHS is totally out of control.

Definitely a crock. You have given another fingerprints during the course of obtaining the residency status. If they had a data base, they wouldn't need another set.

Land of the free my arse, as Jim Royle would say.... http://britishexpats.com/forum/showt...50#post7083050 I also assume once they start the exit checks, you'll have to comply with that as well. The only way any potential terrorist could possibly bypass this new system was if they kidnapped you while abroad, had plastic surgery to look like you and scalped your fingerprint and grafted it onto theirs! That's quite a lot to do, even for the most committed terrorist. There must be a little DHS thinktank somewhere whose only purpose in life is to dream up all the possible ways to enter the country via fraudulent methods and ways to stop it, no matter how absurd it seems. Another issue is, what line will you use to enter as an LPR in future? The USC/LPR or the visitor lines? Given currently all the equipment needed for US-VISIT is on the visitor lines, I guess you might have a long wait to enter the country you live in. |

I realise that the US Border Patrol is more active now in randomly stopping cars in the border regions of the USA, but I assume it would still be pretty easy to rendezvous with someone who'd crossed illegally in a place like that, and drive them out of the border region. I wouldn't do it of course, but I'll bet some folks do.. |

Yes exactly! I'm so pissed by this obvious DUMB expansion by the DHS, I just sent emails to my Senator and Congressman saying what a load of s*it this idea is.

I remember about 20 years ago visiting a (unstaffed) state park in northern Vermont - Lake Something-or-other, just south of the Canadian border. We took the trail map, and started out on the circular trail. About half way around, I realised that we were very close to the Canadian border although that wasn't shown on the trail map. I bushwacked off the trail, and, as I has estimated, got to the border swathe in about 100 yards. Just for the heck of it, I crossed back and forth into Canada a couple of times.

I visited Big Bend National Park, where it would have been possible to roll up your trousers and literally paddle through the Rio Grande to and from Mexico. There was even a little boat where you could pay a guy to row you the few yards to the Mexican side to where you could hike to a nearby place to eat. |

I'm surprised at the attitudes of some of you.
If you have done nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide... What's wrong with registration and licensing of people? That's what you always ask me. |

I was recently asked for my SSN when renewing my homeowners insurance - insurance I've had for 12 years already. When I challenged their right to have my SSN, they said, "yes, you have a right to withhold it, and we have a right to deny your insurance". So for whatever reason, my homeowner's insurance company has my SSN data. |
