And if those officers who acted on orders and information are convicted, you will find the tactical firearms units may have others resign in support, so the problem may be solved anyway. The inches will then be the deaths of just victims of bombers.

Forget it Merc, these people won't be happy till the bombers are allowed free travel passes to get on the tube and kill people. Maybe the bombers' families should get compensation for the deaths of their loved ones too ?

The British police would seem to be in agreement with the calmer voices here. It was a mistake, and must not be allowed to happen again.

Its good that they recognise that there is a problem and they are looking into it. I would think that there are probably more than one way to handle these situations.....it seems that there are.

Thanks for the link LIW.

A string of blunders have emerged, including the white Brazilian man being misidentified as a black African terrorism suspect.
How did that happen?

I don't think the British police have had much experience with suicide bomber before have they? Since policies will be trial and error and not infallable, unfortunately there may still be innocent people killed, whether it is in the delay of intelligence being transmitted to commanding officers blah blah. In the meantime a delay could still result in a suicide bomber activating a bomb and people dying. In the future they will probably be damned if they don't do anything and damned if they do, as either can result in innocent death. Their policies anyway will probably get known to the people that they are trying to stop and they will put measures into counter it. But at least they are trying to make things better, and that should keep a few people off their backs fo r a little while, until the next time.

Do you have inside knowledge that the Police's policies are "trial and error", as you put it?

Just wondering...

If they haven't had experience in dealing with suicide bombers before, how will they know they will work? The policy they introduced in shooting a "suicide bomber" in the head, had flaws in it, didn't it and they obviously have learnt something from it? Yet the Isralies have used it for a while and it's how they deal with them. Maybe they will turn to them for advice as they have been used to dealing with them longer and will have made their own mistakes. But some people may not like them either.

The policy of termination worked very well
The identification of the terminable is where the problem lay.

So the moral of the story is to ask for id before shooting them in the head?

They are reported to have consulted the Israelis. The difference is that the Israelis have such a bad relationship with the Palestinians that they don't mind making mistakes. I have not seen any repotts of them preventing an attack this way; they could have done so but not reported it.

I don't suppose a load of Prozac given to people of certain religions with suicidal tendancies or another book to read would help either?

Back to the drawing board....

Well this is still going on...and getting a tad childish, so I'm gonna finally close it.
