Re: Obtaining a social security number
Waited 5 hours just to get seen when we went. But it was the day after MLK so there was a long line! Note - don't go to the office the day after it's been closed for 3 days!

Yeah good luck with that. It doesn't work that way I'm afraid...

You DONT have a visa? you are either very brave, mad or stupid! not to mention that you wont be able to get an ssn without it as you have no legal right to work without it.

Ray I was thinking it was you that posted previously about the people who sell up all they have and turn up at Orlando airport, kids in tow, asking for a visa to live and work there?

How to live in the USA
and see if any of it applies to you. If not, you're going to find it very difficult to make a permanent move to the US.

OR, without one, you can't get inside.
What's the rest of your plan?

Re: Obtaining a social security number
its all the fault of bloody eastenders/corrie. It gives people the notion that you can just say im going to go to live in america and do it the following week without any visa etc. they should feature a storyline of how hard it actually is to emigrate somewhere to help the bloke on the street understand.

You never know, they could have thought we were talking about visa as in visa debit. But I highly doubt it.
MsElui you are spot on, I mean Pauline Fowler just upping sticks and 'moving' to live with Michelle with one day's notice and a phone call. It just doesn't work that way! I think they should show someone first of all going through all the bother of emigration, then all the bother of coming back when it doesn't turn out to be the bed of roses they thought it would be.
Then again Eastenders was home to the benefit cheating Millers and nobody seemed to give a crap about that.

Endless shots of people waiting on hold with the "customer service" line, obsessive checking on the online status, just show the page and 'refresh' 'refresh' 'refresh', the 3 hour waiting room experience at the Embassy.. who wouldn't want to watch that?!

It would make a good soap opera sometimes I think. I mean we've had it all - the girl who was illegal and let her ex-boyfriend give her baby to his mother, the guy who wanted to know about visas to propose to his girlfriend in NYC and turned out to be a USC, births, deaths, marriages etc.

Search for Ayrria to get episode two where the illegal leaves the US and her child behind but it's OK because the grandma promised to bring the kid to visit in the UK...
