Default New York Accommodation

Hi all, I have a friend heading to New York for a year and just wonder what areas are 'vibrant' and 'creative' to live in but also affordable (eg £500/month) for a 2 bed/studio apartment would be considered (for 2 people).

Any info greatly appreciated, thanks

plenty of threads about NY to have a look through....but $1000 a month, you'll be looking at a shiny cupboard unless your living well out in the boonies with a massive commute...

Do you mean $500 for per person per month ie $1,000 per month...or a total of $500 for 2 people?

I serve as your translater today They said 500 GBP, so I presume around $1000.

Strongly suggest that you check out Hoboken, just across the Hudson River in NJ......large number of young British expats living there (some even post here!) as it is cheaper than living in NYC but very trendy and vibrant....and rapidly becoming 'gentrified'....there is a new 'W' Hotel being constructed there.

You just take the PATH subway train (runs all night) to various stations in Manhatten, the NY Waterway ferries or the buses to the Port Authority, one block from Times Square.
