I've not tried that yet either, we're getting a dog soon. Maybe i can get some for the dog and just try a little myself.....is it safe to give to animals? lol

nope, these are all things that i must try! i only moved to Virginia about 6 weeks ago but I've been in California for the last 2weeks....heading back to the east coast in just under 3 weeks, my fiancee will be starting her job and I'll be waiting for my EAD, so i guess inbetween the house work and cooking i may get chance to sample some of the fine foods of America.

As much as I love the native food here, I'd hold off on calling it "fine" food...;)

As for biscuits and gravy - they're ok, it's grits I can't handle.

I love biscuits and gravy. Grits is an acquired taste and it can depend on where you are in the country. Cheesy grits are divine. Hot sauce like Louisiana Hot Sauce is the key, splash it all over. Oh and lots of butter too.

Chicken and Grits, Fish and grits, Chicken and Waffles, oooh.

Maybe it's a northern thing? I've heard southern wufters don't like em :)

I am Northern (actually Scottish) and I physically hate them. Even just thinking about them makes me want to be sick. My husband is from the South of England loves them. He only eats them when I am not around. He's trying to get our kids liking them but no joy so far.

I have been to Red Robin once and did have a very good burger there. I don't eat red meat. One thing that did surprise me was the endless fries. They just kept bringing them to the table! I am used to them filling up the soft drinks but not the fries!

I hate to question your scottishness...but seriously..no mushy peas and no red meat...they might not let you back in if they find out..

Next you'll be saying you don't like kilts and have never tossed a caber:)

Oh just you wait..I'm pretty much from the same area..a pie eater...

I've heard that I'm from South Africa, Australia, New York...Ireland (ouch) and everywhere in-between..

As I say to other people, where exactly are you from...much better than them wrongly guessing Afrikaans, Aussie, East Coast twang or Gaelic...I mean..really...

I'd probably take offense at being thought of as a Jock:)

Ill post this in the recipe thread too, just in case anyone else doesnt want to pay $2 at staters for a small can of Bachelors (as lovely as they are)..

Ingredients

1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas 1/4 cup heavy cream 1 tablespoon butter 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions
Bring a shallow pot of lightly salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add frozen peas, and cook for 3 minutes, or until tender.

Drain peas, and transfer to a blender or large food processor. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper to peas, and BLITZ until blended, but still thick with small pieces of peas. Adjust seasonings to taste, and serve immediately.

Or .................... buy some dried peas, soak them and boil them ;)

Rene

We did that too! Was it pearl onions? :)
