Default Mushy Peas

Ill post this in the recipe thread too, just in case anyone else doesnt want to pay $2 at staters for a small can of Bachelors (as lovely as they are)..

Ingredients

1 (10 ounce) package frozen green peas 1/4 cup heavy cream 1 tablespoon butter 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Directions
Bring a shallow pot of lightly salted water to a boil over medium-high heat. Add frozen peas, and cook for 3 minutes, or until tender.

Drain peas, and transfer to a blender or large food processor. Add cream, butter, salt and pepper to peas, and BLITZ until blended, but still thick with small pieces of peas. Adjust seasonings to taste, and serve immediately.

An Ozzie friend gave some American friends of ours fish chips and mushy peas at his bar, eventually after staring at the peas, tasting them, and messing with them one of them said, this guacamole tastes funny!

Actually I think it sounds pretty good. It's like the creamed peas & onions my dad used to make for Thanksgiving. Just that in our case the peas weren't blended, but they were in a yummy white cream sauce. Mmmmm.

Rene,

Take it from me, the 'normal' UK mushy peas DO NOT contain cream, they are processed peas boiled with sugar until they resemble in texture, color and probably taste the contents of a babies nappy!

SDDep has given you a very posh version, of the things!

And the 'normal' mushy peas are a lot easier to make, just boil them to death in a pan of water (dried marrowfat peas) with a couple tbs's sugar. Yummy!!
I have a couple of tins in the cupboard, hubby won't touch them, but that is fine with me
