Also I don't think any British doc quitting the UK is going to be too complimentary about the NHS!!

I think raising the issue of racist incidents in the UK has great value, as it is not really discussed in the UK, though class issues are open. In the US the reverse is true. Race issues are at least open for discussion my most, but class is almost taboo.

Exactly in the UK they operate a policy of pretend it doesn't exist - time it changed but with UKIP on the rise I doubt it!

Main thing that sealed my liking for this place is simply the attitude. None of the overt prejudice and discrimination that is widespread in the UK built up over generations of colonial rule over others. But now it is essentially an island no one pays much attention towards.
Here all they care about is ability not how your name is pronounced or how much melanin is in your skin like the UK. The cosmopolitan nature of the States is incredible. So I say to the OP where there is a will there is a way.
At the end of the day over a million legally migrate every year here so clearly there are ways to do it unlike the country being surrounded by a fortress wall which is the impression you get from some of the members on here!

I'm glad things are going well for you -- but let us know how you feel about it all after you have been here for three years, not three months, and the rose colored glasses are off. If you worked in a stress-filled, under-funded inner city hospital, rather than in NJ, things might also look rather different.
Anyway back to the OP I didn't like the unnecessary snideness and teasing of him/her. A point can be made without it

Yes once in the UK I wasn't given a job once because the admin thought I needed a work permit on the basis of my name despite them having a copy of my UK passport!! Go figure that one out jg.

I know several doctors in the UK who are quite happy there and making a good living.

You have been on the receiving end of such discrimation...your attitude is making sense now. Not all Brits are like that...just like not all Americans are as accommodating. You are living and working in one of the wealthiest parts of the US...a lot of it is old money...the class system is rife.
