I guess we weren't thinking of the tourism industry when we made TELEVISION and MOVIES. I guess the reason I don't go to blighty is because it rains alllllll the time and the food sucks. However if I go I might run into the Queen.

You really should not use the C word, there are plenty of PC alternatives.
You are in the US and its sort of expected that you would know and use them, we would know exacly what you mean.
I doubt if any posters on this board live in the 'hood.

for the PC brigade ..but then its OK to for people to say they don't
want a redneck area.. personally I rather people say
what they mean .... but then I am off a different generation
we don't find offence at every slight made ...

I'm not 'offended', their comments didn't personally insult me.
What I find hard to understand is how people can still think in this way, how they can be still be so ignorant of their world in this day and age.

ADVICE WANTED!
We are a British family moving to Florida from the west coast within the next few weeks. We have narrowed our search down to the Northeast and in particular St Johns County as we have been recommended this area as a low crime and good schools area (we have 2 young boys, aged 5 & 9). We intend on renting initially while we look around at property (6 months?). Can anyone recommend towns/cities not too far a commute from Jacksonville, we have already looked into Fruit Cove/Switzerland and that seems a lovely area from what we can see on the web but we have not been there. We are looking for a predominately caucasean population of either young familes and/or older folk with a community atmosphere, friendly, open-minded people who would be happy to have 'foreigners' as friends! Are there many brits in the Jacksonville area? Would be grateful for anyone's opinions based on experience? Thanks a lot in advance!

Well, there's me, I'm a brit in the Jacksonville area. Don't know any others here though, all my friends are American. Can't avoid them really . As per your last thread, I'm in St Johns county. Fruit Cove and Switzerland are nice areas, in fact most of St Johns is nice. Commuting into Jacksonville from there may be a bit of a bitch to deal with though. It seems closest to Jacksonville as it's in the most northern parts of the county, but it also means using the most congested routes into Jacksonville. It's actually quicker and more straight forward for commuters to join the I-95 a few exits further south at WGV than Julington Creek and Fruit Cove. Nocatee is a new town being built, that might be the kind of place you're looking for, but it's very new so lacking amenities and stores for now. http://www.nocatee.com/ Commuters can drive from there north on US1 to get to the the I-95 or route 9a. You need to avoid travelling on the I-295 at all costs.
